Kickers struggling with 0-10-1 record

The Oxford varsity soccer team survived a tough week of losses.
On Wednesday, April 30, the team lost to Utica Eisenhower 10-1.
‘They were taking shots from 25 yards out and still hitting them,? said coach Val Cerato. ‘We were out of our league.?
Oxford’s goal was scored by Deann Kujawa, who has carried the team so far in points.
Over the weekend, the Lady Cats attended the Notre Dame Prep Tournament. In round one, Oxford lost to Regina 4-0 and then Frankenmuth 2-0. In round two, the Cats lost to Brandon 1-0, who also lost both games in round one.
‘In those three games we generated less than a dozen shots on goal,? said Cerato.
Goalie Nicole Carter was chosen unanimously by the tournament judges for the Notre Dame Prep All Tournament Team.
On Tuesday, Oxford lost against Holly 3-1.
The game was tight 1-1 at the end of the first half. Kujawa once again scored the team’s only goal for the game, with an assist by Sam Marshall.
Cerato said Holly got two goals in the second half with two direct free kicks about 25 yards out.
The highlight player for the night was Cortney Vassall, defender, who played with a broken arm.
‘She was able to move forward and take a couple of shots on goal,? said Cerato.
JV players Jena Nelson and Chelsea McIntosh moved up to assist the team for the evening.
The Lady Cats game against Lapeer East has been rescheduled for May 20 at home. Oxford next competes against Fenton tonight (Thursday.)
