A 1-0 Clarkston loss to Lake Orion
last season was the kindling, a 1-0 Lake
Orion win on a disputed penalty kick
on Sept. 9 provided the spark, and now
Clarkston’s hard fought 1-0 loss on
Oct. 7 has set a rivalry ablaze, the most
recent game between the two schools
was also decided by a penalty kick.
‘I am not blaming the officiating
(for the loss) because we had four
breakaways that we could not score
on,? said Clarkston Coach Mark
Whitcomb.
The teams played to a stalemate
for much of the game until Lake Orion
scored on a penalty kick with 25 minutes
left in the game. Junior goalie
Barak Thomas was able to get a hand
on the shot as he dove across the goal
mouth, but was unable to take enough
off it to keep the shot out of the net.
‘Hopefully, we win our first round
game in regionals and (Lake Orion)
wins theirs so we meet up again. I
know my boys want another shot at
them,? said Whitcomb.
The loss Thursday drops the
Wolves to 6-8-2 (2-7-2) and took some
of the lustre off a week which featured
a 3-1 win over defending state
champion Troy High on Oct. 5. The
win against the Colts is the first time
Clarkston has beaten Troy in
Whitcomb’s two-year tenure.
Clarkston goes up against a Detroit
Country Day team which is
ranked fifth overall in the state
rankings for division three on Thursday,
Oct. 14.
