During the past weeks the editorial staff here at The Citizen peruse the 52 editions of 2003 seeking the top stories for the traditional Year in Review edition.
The upside to the assignment is knowing the conclusion to the story.The downside some stories end sadly while some end happliy and some simply never. For example:
The good stories of 2003: Mill Street is paved, Goodrich baseball snagged a regional title and the weather for September Fest was top notch.
The bad: A major ice storm ripped through our area, a August blackout stifled the community; and a very heated debate raged over noise in Brandon Township.
The ugly: Budget cuts snipped away at our students? education; traffic on M-15 mades the major road nearly impassible and the Detroit Lions and Tigers tried to compete.
The sad: the community lost Fr. Hardy, Brandon teens died in accidents and sex crimes lurked on police files.
Never ending: Environmental issues, crime and disagreements among residents.
Whewww…
Some say good riddance to 2003, others say hey, it’s not that bad of a year. And for some it was a great year.
Regardless of the end, The Citizen Staff reported these and hundreds of other stories. And, in 2004 we’ll be there for the concerts, accidents, football games, weather events, meetings, arguments and what ever else the community provides good bad or neutral.
As we conclude another year the stories at
