The annual Lake Orion Lions Club Jubilee will hit the downtown streets next week. And when vendors arrive, they should find those streets in the best shape of the year.
The village’s water main contractor, C&P Construction Co., Inc, completed the last of their new water main tie-ins last week. This week, they hope to complete pavement restoration along Flint Street and Broadway.
New concrete will be laid on parts of both streets, with a two-inch layer of asphalt to be placed on top either Friday or Monday, weather permitting.
A complete repaving project for these village streets is on tap within the next year.
‘We know that everyone has put up with inconvenience during the construction. We thank you for your patience,? village officials said in a statement last week.
The Jubilee, meanwhile, is scheduled for next Thursday-Saturday (July 3-5) in the downtown.
Broadway, from Front Street north to Shadbolt, and Flint, from Anderson west to Lapeer Street, will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 and not reopened until Sunday, July 6 at noon (Wednesday and Sunday serve as set up and clean up days, respectively).
Temporary stop signs will be placed at Shadbolt and Anderson (making it a four-way stop) and Flint and Anderson (making it a three-way stop), to assist with traffic flow.
A public hearing was held two weeks ago at the regular meeting of the village council, with no objections received.
Police Chief Jerry Narsh cautioned carnival-goers to keep an eye out for unapproved vendors.
‘You must be an approved vendor by the village to be selling goods to the public,? he said, noting illegal vendors will be ticketed and can have their products confiscated if ticketed twice.
‘Otherwise, we’re looking forward to a great carnival,? Narsh added.
