Lansing- After three-full terms as 46th District State Representative, Ruth Johnson (R-Groveland Twp.) announced Wednesday she will run for Oakland County Clerk.
‘If the voters are willing I’d like to bring my experience and leadership back to Oakland County,? said Johnson on Wednesday. ‘The taxpayers of Oakland County deserve to have the most efficient and best services for the lowest prices.?
Johnson, served 10 years on the Oakland County Commission, six of those as vice-chair. She was first elected to the House in 1998 and won reelection in 2000 and 2002. During her terms Johnson was active in the investigation of the Oakland County Intermediate School District, spearheadeding efforts to reform intermediate school districts providing accountability and assure taxpayer money stays in the classroom. In addition, she chaired the House Land Use and Environment Committee.
‘A number of people from the clerk’s office asked me to run,? said Johnson. ‘They have the best staff and now it’s time to make sure they have the best technology to perform those services.?
Johnson will challenge incumbent county clerk G. William Caddell in the Aug. 3 primary.
