The Pine Knob Elementary Alpha Club is once again in full swing for its third straight year.
The elementary branch of the Optimists is made up of 24 members, who kicked off their season Sept. 18 with a pizza party.
Plans for the year include providing help and service to Lighthouse North via canned food drives, purchasing a holiday meal for a family in need at Thanksgiving and baskets at Easter time.
Already they made Halloween cards for the Sunrise Retirement Community, created Optimist Game Boards to play at an adult Optimist meeting, and collected $775 through a Little Caesars Pizza Kit fundraiser so all members could enjoy a performance of ‘A Christmas Carol? at Meadow Brook Theatre this December. The club will also participate in the Christmas Lights Parade.
The junior optimists have invited several guest speakers for the year including Steve Balko of the Michigan Lighthouse Project; Jim Evans, president of the Clarkston Foundation and owner of Overland Expeditions; and John Merz, owner of Graphmark Services who designed the club’s T-shirts.
