Caryn Inman-Herrick, a 2003 Oxford High School graduate and three sport standout in basketball, volleyball and track and field, went on to star in two sports during her collegiate career at Madonna University, thus earning her a spot in the 2011 Class of the OHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
During her OHS varsity career, Inman would earn 12 varsity letters – four each in basketball, volleyball and track and field.
She exploded onto the scene as a freshman on the basketball court, making the all-Flint Metro team, finishing fifth on the team in scoring with 143 points and leading Oxford in three-point field goal percentage (.345).
In 2000, Inman was named all-FML again and led the Wildcats in steals (85), assists (114) and assists in one game (9). Oxford would finish the season 21-1 and record back-to-back FML championships.
Inman would again lead the charge for the Wildcats in 2001 as they advanced to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state quarterfinals, posting a 22-3 record.
Once again she led the team in steals (101), assists (113) and also scored the most points in a game by an Oxford player (26).
She was named captain of the 2002 squad that went 11-10, but Inman earned all-area, all-FML and all-state honorable mentions.
Inman was also dominant on the other hardwood court game, volleyball.
She was named team captain and most valuable player in both her junior and senior seasons. She was also named all-FML and all area following the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
During her junior campaign, Inman helped lead the Wildcats to FML and MHSAA district titles. As a senior, Inman was named to the all-Oakland County volleyball team and was selected to the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association all-state honorable mention.
She didn’t just excell in the indoor sports. Inman was a four-time all-FML honoree during her time with the varsity track and field squad.
Inman was part of the 3200 meter relay team that set a school record, which would stand for seven years. She was the squad’s most valuable player in 2002 and 2003 after leading Oxford to back-to-back FML titles as a middle distance runner.
While the team would lose in the 2002 MHSAA regional finals, Inman would remain undefeated in the 400 meter dash during FML competition for nearly two years.
Inman would also go on to qualify for MHSAA finals four consecutive years.
Inman received the Helen Smith award, which recognizes the most outstanding senior female athlete.
Upon graduating, Inman would enroll at Madonna University and once again be a star on the hardwood.
As a volleyball player, Inman would be named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in 2003 before being named to the WHAC all-conference volleyball team over the next three seasons.
In addition to receiving NAIA all-regional honors for three consecutive seasons, Inman was also named the WHAC and NAIA Region VIII volleyball player of the year in 2006. She earned second team All-America honors in 2006 after being selected to the NAIA All-America honorable mention team in 2005.
She remains in the top ten in nine seperate season and career statistical categories at Madonna.
Inman enjoyed an award-winning collegiate basketball career as well.
She received WHAC first team honors in 2077-08 and was twice named an NAIA Academic All-American. She also earned the WHAC Champions of Character Award following the 2005-06 season and was selected team captain and most valuable player for the 2007-08 season.
She graduated in 2008 with a degree in secondary education and currently is a teacher and coach with Oxford Community Schools.
