Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Dragon hockey traveled to Traverse City for the annual Titan Invitational, hosted by Traverse City West High School.
In the first contest the young Dragons played tournament host, the Titans, losing 5-2.
‘The experienced Titians have 13 seniors in their lineup, and their size and quickness caught the Dragons off guard early,? said Assistant Coach Don Finn.
Dragons were able to battle back, and after giving up the opening goal of the game. They knotted the score at 1-1 by the end of the first period. TC West took the lead for good in the second period, scoring two goals, and adding another in the third.
‘The Dragons continued to work hard and scored in the middle of the period to make the game exciting,? Finn said.
Sophomores Shane Stockwell and Zachary Koonce scored for the Dragons.
Saturday, Dragons took on Traverse City Central, winning 4-2. Senior Shane Pettit got the Dragons on the board first. The second and third goals were scored by Daniel Hodge. Central cut the score to 3-2 early in the third period, ‘but the Dragons continued to battle on,? said Finn.
They were rewarded when junior Brett Reed lit the lamp with 3:39 to go, making the final score 4-2
‘Dragons got disciplined play from the entire lineup, including goalie Dominic Juncaj, who was solid in goal, turning away 20 of the 22 shots against him,? said the assistant coach. ~ Megan Collier
