The varsity hockey team kept on rolling this week after sophomore Stephan Fritz’s hat trick propelled the Wildcats to a 4-2 victory over Port Huron on Saturday, Jan. 29.
Fritz scored two goals in the opening period to help Oxford jump out to a 3-0 lead. He scored his first goal with 3:36 left in the period on a feed from junior Nolan Chapman.
He tallied his second goal of the period less than a minute and a half later, extending the Wildcat lead to three.
Goal number three for Fritz came with 7:58 left in the second, giving the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.
Port Huron fought back with a late goals in the second and third period.
‘I was impressed with our boys in this game,? hockey head coach Dave Hague said. ‘We worked through some adversity and kept bringing pressure. Our special teams were strong and were a big difference for us.?
Senior goalie Patric Hanson stopped 25 of 27 shots for the Wildcats.
With the victory, the Wildcats are currently 10-5-3 on the season. They play Lanse Creuse North on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Onyx Ice Arena in Rochester starting at 7:15 p.m.
