Brandon Twp. – Icy roads may have contributed to an Oakwood Road accident Tuesday morning, Jan. 29.
Sgt. Pete Burkett, Oakland County Sherriff’s Brandon Substation, said a white pickup truck traveling eastbound on Oakwood Road was going uphill and lost control, going into the westbound lane. Burkett said the accident occurred on an incline and tires were probably trying to grab the road, but because the roads were so icy, the truck slid instead.
The driver of the westbound pickup truck said he saw the other truck coming, but was unable to get out of the way.
The eastbound driver, a Goodrich man was ejected from his vehicle and is in serious condition. ‘He did not appear to be wearing a seat belt,? said Burkett. He said the driver of that vehicle was the first one to be transported to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc for treatment.
The driver and the passenger of the green westbound truck, were transported to Genesys, however they received only minor injuries in the crash.
Burkett gave a bit of advice for drivers during icy road conditions: ‘Take your time, slow down and give yourself an extra 10 or 15 minutes to get where you are going. It’s just not worth it,? he said.
