Michigan played host to this year’s annual AAU Junior Olympic Games, and Lake Orion High School saw the action on the hardwood as they hosted the girls? basketball competition.
Girls? basketball teams from Wisconsin, Michigan, Tennessee and Canada participated in the games.
Several Lake Orion Dragons played in the contest with their AAU team, the Michigan Shock, coached by Bob Brydges.
The team took third place overall in the games, behind first place finisher Wisconsin JR Select and second place Tennessee Elite White.
Playing for the team is Lake Orion High School seniors Brittney Hopkins and Kate Dalrymple and juniors Alexis Haan and Jackie Hood.
Hopkins, Dalrymple and Haan were members of the varsity basketball team last year, while Hood was a starter on the junior varsity.
The third place finish at the Junior Olympics comes just a month after the team took fifth at the 2008 AAU Girls Basketball DII 16U National Championship, held in Orlando. The team qualified for competition in the national event after winning the Michigan state title for Division II.
