Homecoming shut-out!

‘The minute we start becoming satisfied with what we’ve done, we’re in trouble,? said Chris Bell
With that in mind, the head coach and his Dragon football team are on well on their way to finishing a perfect season, after Friday’s homecoming 45-0 victory over Troy.
The team’s 6-0 this season and they’ve clinched a playoff spot. Now they’re playing for home-field advantage in the post season, says Bell. And if they win this Friday against Troy Athens, they could have a league championship game against Clarkston to look forward to.
Only Troy Athens (2-4) and a still unknown OAA White adversary stand in their way.
‘Those are great games to get us ready for the post-season,? Bell said, adding ‘To get ready for Clarkston, it’s simply us continuing to get better at what we’re doing. We never worry about anybody else. Our focus is about us.?
This coming Friday, Oct, 8, the team heads out of town to play the Athens Redhawks.
‘They have talent, they just have yet to be able to really put it together on a consistent basis,? said Bell. ‘We’ve got to do a good job; we can’t take them lightly,?
The Dragon team ? now more like a well-oiled, green-powered freight train ? picked up more momentum from last Friday’s shut-out. Keeping their opponents completely out of the end zone was a Dragon goal all season, said Bell, and this time they accomplished it.
‘We’re very proud of the kids ? they played very well. Homecoming is challenging with all the different events going on. We really put it on the kids to stay focused and they did a great job. They had a great week at practice and they carried that over into a very good game,? Bell said. ‘Troy’s a pretty good team, but everybody who stepped on the field contributed and did a great job of keeping the shut-out alive.?
The coach said the locker-room atmosphere after the game was hard to describe.
‘The team expects to be successful and expects to win, but they keep it in perspective. They knew they played well on offense, defense, special teams, and because they knew, there were a lot of smiles on those faces, and deservedly so,? said Bell. ‘We played our most complete game of the season.?
Bell said all of homecoming week ? not just what happened on the field ? was ‘just really awesome.?
‘All of us recognize it was just a great night for Lake Orion, from the packed stands to the cheerleaders, the band, the whole school during the week, the pep assembly. All of us consider ourselves to be very, very lucky to be part of a community that loves its football like it does,? he said.
