It was a weekend of fun for SCAMP supporters-all for a good cause.
‘It was the smoothest home tour we have ever had? said SCAMP Executive Director Donna Clancy.
This year’s event raised an estimated $55,000 for SCAMP, a camp for kids and young adults with developmental disabilities.
Clancy thanked The Clarkston Medical Group for being a major sponsor of the home tour for the past seven years and donating $5,000. She also thanked many other sponsors from local businesses to area families.
Clancy said the Saturday Tour of homes welcomed about 200 people while Sunday’s crowd was estimated to be at 300.
Saturday events kicked off with Patron’s Night, which included a tour of six area homes, followed by a strolling dinner, beverages and auctions at the Pine Knob Carriage House.
The live auction included a variety of goods donated by area businesses including Veterinarian Tom Pytel, Rudy’s Market, Waterfall Jewelers and several area golf courses. Bidders could also vie for the chance to spend the day at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office or sponsor a SCAMP Camper.
Numerous businesses also donated items for a silent auction, and one lucky winner won $10,000 after being drawn as the winner of a raffle.
Although many attended Patron’s Night, some visitors just took the Home Tour on Sunday.
Elizabeth Wagner said she has been interested in SCAMP since she first moved to Clarkston, and has been attending the event every since. Carol McNally said she enjoys Patrons Night was set up really nice and she loved the food.
This year was Carol Clark’s first visit to the SCAMP Home Tour. ‘It really is so interesting seeing old homes in the area,? she said. She plans to return again next year.
Over 200 students in northern Oakland County and Genesee County attend SCAMP, this year from June 24-July 31. SCAMP is funded by the community, and donations made to SCAMP are tax deductible.
