Holy Cross Lutheran Church was established in 1945. The congregation has been in its present worship facility at 136 S. Washington since 1954, having constructed additional classroom and fellowship area in 1978, and upgrading the facility for barrier-free access to its worship area in 2002. Holy Cross has a membership of nearly 300 people and is currently served by Pastor Michael P. Schulz, who has been at the congregation since December of 1990.
Holy Cross is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The Holy Cross ministry focuses upon the faith and everyday life of its members. The Holy Scriptures, which are the inerrant Word of God, are the sole authority regarding one’s faith and life relationship with the Lord. Therefore, members are encouraged to stay in contact with God’s Word through worship participation and personal Bible study opportunities, where the truth of salvation by the grace of God through God’s gift of faith in Jesus Christ is proclaimed.
The worship life of the congregation centers in its Sunday service which is held at 10:00 a.m., with a coffee/fellowship time immediately following the service. Sunday School classes and Bible classes for children and adults begin at 8:45 a.m. Special worship services are conducted on church festival days and midweek evening services are conducted on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. during the church seasons of Advent and Lent. The public is always welcome.
A youth ministry for middle-school and high school youth emphasizes Bible study, social gatherings, service events and recreational activities.
Holy Cross considers it a great privilege to serve the surrounding area through its Christian Preschool. Holy Cross Christian Preschool celebrated its 40th anniversary in January of 2005.
Our Christ-Centered, developmental program provides a language rich environment that is made possible by our multisensory approach to language development.
This is accomplished through a rich blend of activities that enhance the growth of body, mind and soul. There are four classes. A Tuesday-Thursday morning three-year-old class. A Monday-Wednesday-Friday morning four-year-old class. A Tuesday-Thursday afternoon Young Fours class. A Monday-Wednesday-Friday afternoon Young Fives class split with a Monday-Wednesday-Friday Afternoon Older four-year-old class. The faithfulness of the preschool staff through the years has earned Holy Cross Christian Preschool a reputation that is second to none. Call (248) 628-0116 for a personal tour of our facilities.
Holy Cross has also begun a MOPS Program, which stands for Mothers of Preschoolers (newborn through kindergarten). Moms take care of their children, but who takes care of moms? MOPS does!
For 30 years, MOPS International had provided mothers of preschoolers with relationships and resources they need to be the best moms they can be. MOPS is dedicated to the message that ‘mothering matters? and that moms of young children need encouragement during these critical years. MOPS provides relationships for moms in an accepting atmosphere where they are reminded that they are not alone.
Holy Cross Lutheran’s new ministry is off to a wonderful start with 24 moms and 27 children in attendance. Join MOPS on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross. There is a $5 charge for each meeting if you preregister or $7 at the door.
