Hockey team still searching for a win

The Oxford Varsity Hockey Team has been struggling with wins this season, but that hasn’t stopped Coach Dave Hague from having a positive outlook.
‘Sometimes you need to take steps backwards in order to move forward,? he said.
On Jan. 6, the boys lost 5-0 to Lapeer East, they lost 6-2 against Brandon on Jan. 10 and lost 6-1 against Swartz Creek on Jan. 13. They now stand 0-7 in the Flint Metro League.
‘This guys have improved drastically from an individual standpoint, and we are starting to play as a team,? Hague said.
Leading scorer so far is senior Brian Simpson, who Hague said has ‘stepped up his play? the last couple of weeks.
Travis Collier had 34 outstanding saves against Swartz Creek and Cory Hrischuk had 35 against Brandon. The coach said his top line ? Tim Marney, Elliot Wicker and Adam McLoskey ? is also playing well as of late.
‘We are a very young team with a lot of new faces this year,? he said. ‘I expect a very strong second half of the year, as we continue to improve and prepare this team for the future.?
The Icers take on Linden on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Troy Sports Center at 8:15 p.m.
