Even though the varsity cheer team had their highest score ever at the CCCAM Competition, they finished last during the event on Saturday, Dec. 11.
The Wildcats finished 16th out of 16 teams with a final score of 652.7224.
Cheer co-coach Shari Russell was pleased with how well the team preformed despite their last place finish. ‘As long as we continue to build our scores and progress as a team, we will be pleased,? she said.
Oxford was within 10 points of half the competition after the first round, but a lack of tumbling in round two kept Oxford from scoring as well as other teams.
‘We aren’t yet throwing team back tucks…you just don’t see teams go to states anymore that don’t have team back tucks,? Russell said.
The third round saw Oxford score well in execution, but difficultly score was way down due to their routine not being completed yet.
The Wildcats scored over 200 points in each of the first two rounds, something Russell is hoping will become a trend throughout the season. Their next competition is on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at home as they host the Mardi Gras Mambo Invite.
