High school mourns sophomore

A 16-year-old Lake Orion High School student died by suicide Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to Oakland County Sheriff Deputies.
‘He obviously was very well liked,? said Mike Fenchel, interim high school principal.
The student was a sophomore and junior varsity football player. His funeral was attended by many within Lake Orion Community Schools, Fenchel said.
‘As a school district and a school community, our hearts go out to family and friends and the community of this young man,? said Superintendent Ken Gutman. ‘It’s always a tragedy when someone passes so young.?
According to Fenchel, the district began offering grief counseling Wednesday to students at the high school as well as Scripps Middle School, where the young man used to attend.
‘We offer a variety of programs directed at students to assist them in both dealing with issues of death as well as dealing with other issues,? Fenchel said, noting these programs are offered throughout the school year.
Parents with concerns can call the school at 248-693-5420.
