An 11 point lead into the last quarter wasn’t enough to keep Clarkston’s Lady Cagers in the hunt.
‘We didn’t shoot the ball well and didn’t get the job done in the fourth quarter,? said Clarkston coach Tim Wasilk.
The Wolves ended their season Monday after losing to Oxford in the district playoffs, 35-33.
The score in the last quarter was 23-12 when Oxford gained momentum. With 30 seconds left in the game, Brooke Bocquet scored three points, sending the game into overtime.
The Wildcats scored 6-8 at the free throw line, and the Wolves were 4-8.
‘Oxford did a good job defensively and stuck to their game plan,? said Wasilk.
Jennifer Johnston scored 14 points during the game and Kaleigh Kenny scored seven.
The Lady Wolves ended their season, 13-8.
‘I thought the girls improved throughout the season. I am proud of the girls, it just would’ve been nice to have a better ending. I thought our seniors did a great job with their leadership and commitment.?
Lady Cagers split their last week of regular games.
The ladies prepared for the district game with two games last week.
On Tuesday, they played their last home game of the season. They beat Southfield-Lathrup, 30-23.
Seniors Jennifer Johnston and Betsy Mellen started the game on a high note, both scoring field goals for the team.
They went into the second half one point ahead. From there they pushed forward to out score their competition, 18-12 for the half.
Johnston put 16 points on the board, and Daugherty added seven.
For their last game on Thursday, they lost to Marian, 42-28.
Daugherty and Johnston scored the most points. Daugherty, 13, and Johnston, 9.
‘We ran into a good team,? said coach Tim Wasilk. ‘They did a really good job on defense. It wasn’t our night.?
