Adrain Harges? layup with one second left gave the Brandon varsity basketball team a happy ending to their Jan. 31 league game against visiting Linden.
Brandon, which trailed 49-40 after the third period, came back to earn a 63-62 win against the Eagles. The Blackhawks improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in Flint Metro League play.
The Blackhawks? win, combined with Fenton’s win against Oxford the same night, gave Brandon sole possession of the Flint Metro lead. Brandon is one game ahead of Fenton and Oxford, both at 5-2 in the league.
At the end of the first quarter, Linden’s Alex Perry drilled a three-pointer as time expired to give the Eagles a 20-8 lead. Brandon would spend the rest of the game catching up to the Eagles.
In the second quarter, Brandon coach Tim Donnan substituted frequently in order to find a lineup that would trim the Linden lead. However, the Blackhawks didn’t make much of a dent into the lead, as the Eagles took a 35-26 lead at halftime.
Harges finished the game with seven points and 10 assists, while Donald Carter led the Blackhawks with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Adam Howard added 11 points and Erik Allar 10 for Brandon.
Rory Acker scored 21 points and Matt Weller added 15 for Linden (1-11 overall, 1-6 league).
After their first loss of the season, the Blackhawks got back on the winning track with a 64-54 win against host Lapeer West in a Jan. 27 matchup.
Jerry Cronk and Gary Glasby each scored 14 ponits for the Blackhawks, while Carter added 11. The Blackhawks led 30-23 at halftime.
