Goodrich-Finishing touches are being put on The Goodrich United Methodist Church Family Life Center, completing a project eight years in the making.
The Family Life Center has been a work in progress since 1998, said Karl Zeigler, Pastor of the GUMC.
On March 1, it will open to the public.
Zeigler said the decision to build the center was confirmed last May with construction beginning the first week of June 2005.
The building was designed as outreach ministry for the church. ‘It’s something that we invite and encourage the community to use,? said Zeigler.
The center features six classrooms, male and female bathrooms and locker rooms, a full service kitchen and an elevated walking track. Additionally there is 10,000 square feet of undeveloped space.
Much of the floor of the facility, said Zeigler, is made of recycled tire, offering a 29 percent shock absorption.
A carnival? featuring games, displays, hot dogs and a bounce house? is planned to celebrate the Family Life Center’s opening, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on March 18.
