With the bitter taste of a loss to rival Northern on Jan. 6 languishing in their mouths, Clarkston’s basketball team got back to sipping from the chalice of sweet victory as they disassembled Groves on the road, 56-28 on Jan. 10.
‘I didn’t expect to win that easy at Groves, for whatever reason they had a bad game because they have been playing very well. But it really was an easy game, it turned out to be a lopsided score and I wasn’t expecting that,? said Clarkston Coach Dan Fife.
Senior Joe Moran had a game high 15 points for the Wolves, despite resting during the fourth quarter. Juniors Kevin Badgley and Dan Owens each chipped in 9.
With a game at Pontiac Central on Jan. 17, which finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News, and a home tilt with Southfield Lathrup lurking on Jan. 20, Clarkston is in the thick of OAA Division I competition.
‘This week will be a tough week for us. Lathrup is pretty good again, (Lathrup Coach Mike Avery) does a good job of coaching,?
In 2005, one of the blemishes on Clarkston’s 23-3 record came at Lathrup. The Chargers won the first contest last year, 43-41. The second matchup between the two teams last season featured a stalling offensive tactic by Lathrup, leading to a first quarter score of 3-0 Clarkston. The Wolves persevered through the unique strategy, in the end besting the Chargers 42-25, but with memories of last year still baffling fans, anything could happen this year.
