Green’s Park open year round?

There’s a chance that residents could enjoy Green’s Park on Lake Orion in the village year-round rather than just during the summer months.
The Lake Orion Village Council was asked to establish hours and fees for the park, which the village parks and recreation committee recommended having open from the Friday before Memorial Day (May 23) through Labor Day (Sept. 1). The park hours recommended were 3-8 p.m. on school days and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on non-school days.
“The park is not being used part of the year,” said council member Harry Stephen. “Could you put up ‘no swimming’ signs for the rest of the year, just because it’s by the lake?”
Council president Bill Siver said there might be a safety issue with ice on the lake, having the park open during winter months.
“But there’s still an asset there not being used,” Stephen added
Council member Douglas Dendel questioned the supervision available having the park open year-round.
“It’s like a seasonal thing,” he said. “It’s a very seasonal park. Those buildings down there…a lot of things could happen.
“All you’re doing is you’re inviting people…you create some problems. It’s something you have to look at,” he said.
