Goodrich High School senior pitcher Michael McCormick has achieved a first in school history.
McCormick, who will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall on a baseball scholarship, took part in the 22nd annual East-West All-Star game June 16 at Comerica Park.
He pitched the first two innings for the West team and allowed a hit and a run. He also played first base, although he did not get a turn at bat because of a sore back suffered during the Martians? state quarterfinal game against Vassar June 10, according to Goodrich coach Bob Foreback.
The East team defeated the West team, 3-1.
McCormick was one of four Flint-area players to participate in the contest. Lake Fenton’s Brad Foutch, Davison’s Tony Prieur and Lapeer West’s Steve Bradshaw were the other three.
‘It’s a really good showing from the Flint area,? Foreback said. ‘Usually, there’s one only area player there.?
