Goodrich tops Powers for district title

On Oct. 20 the Goodrich varsity soccer team faced top-ranked Flint Powers and brought home the district championship with a 2-1 win.
Goodrich was trailing 1-0, but Colin Angle scored the game-tying goal with only nine minutes left in the game. There were two-15 minute sudden death overtime periods played, and both teams had their chance to score. In the first shoot-out, both Powers and Goodrich shot two-of-five.
Both teams brought out a sixth shooter and Powers missed their goal. Colin Angle nailed the goal and won the game during the second sudden death. The 2-1 win gave the team its first district championship since 1997. Goodrich record is 18-1-1 and will be going to the regional semifinals.
Goodrich has won 14 straight games in a row since their 3-0 loss to Richmond Aug. 30.
The Martians knocked off Bad Axe 1-0 in the regional regional semifinal late Wednesday in a Division 3 soccer game at Frankenmuth High. Goodrich will play Richmond for the second time this season. The Martians lost 3-0 to Richmond , their only defeat Aug. 30.
