The boys Goodrich Varsity Soccer team dominated their league once again.
They won their third straight championship with their last league game, dumping the Durand Railroaders 5-0, Oct. 4.
The Martians finished the season with a record of 9-0. The team hasn’t lost a league game since 2005 when the GAC (Genesee Area Conference) started to sponsor soccer. Goodrich, which has an overall record of 12-1-1, has outscored its league competitors with a combined score of 55-2 this season. The Martians are ranked 10th in the state in Division 3.
‘Winning the GAC is always the first goal we want to accomplish during the season,? said, Evan Huizenga, Goodrich varsity soccer coach.
‘It means a lot to the players to win the league again, and not losing a league game. I think a big reason for our success is that we have so many athletes who are interested in playing soccer and that creates a big talent pool. ?
The Martians seem to be headed in the direction of victory following their win over the Montrose Rams during their first district game Oct. 15, by a score of 7-0.
Bobby Short had two goals along with David Garr. Kevin Hergenreder, Austin Douglas, and Chase Bertrand also contributed to the seven goals for Goodrich. The goals were consistent throughout the game, giving the Martians the win.
