Goodrich nine rise, fall in twin bill

It seemed like there were two different Goodrich teams playing at Swartz Creek April 20.
The Martians got a stellar pitching performance from Nick Wesener on their way to shutting out the Dragons 8-0 in the first game of their twin bill.
However, in the nightcap, the Martians committed four errors, and allowed eight unearned runs in the third inning on their way to a 14-7 loss. With the split, the Martians are now 11-2 overall and 8-0 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division play.
Wesener struck out nine and scattered four hits in picking up the shutout win. Craig VanWagoner aided the Goodrich cause, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Max Bell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Mike Skinner was tagged with the loss in the nightcap, allowing five runs in two innings. Bell, Wesener, Dom Rivera and Ben Wilson each picked up two hits for the Martians.
Goodrich continued their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of host New Lothrop April 19, winning the first game 16-1 and the second game 8-2.
The Martians return to action April 26, when they travel to Genesee for a 4 p.m. contest.
