Goodrich netters hold off LakeVille

Despite a good fight from LakeVille, the Goodrich varsity volleyball team remains in the heart of the Genesee Area Conference Red Division race.
The host Martians defeated LakeVille 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21 on Feb. 7 to improve to 14-14-1 overall and 7-2 in the GAC Red, good for second place in the division.
Tara Garman was 42-of-47 attacking for the Martians, and was also 17-of-18 serving, 5-of-6 passing with 23 kills, 19 digs, four aces, and three blocks.
Julie Owen was 28-of-30 attacking, 22-of-22 passing, and 15-of-18 serving with 16 digs, 10 kills and five aces.
Alyssa Bertrand was 99-of-101 setting, 24-of-25 attacking and 7-of-9 serving with nine kills, seven digs, and 43 assists, while Katie Birch was 9-of-10 serving and 23-of-26 attacking with 17 digs.
On Feb. 3, the Martians earned another league victory when they defeated Atherton 25-23, 25-12, 22-25, 25-21.
Garman was 44-of-48 attacking with 30 kills and five blocks, while Bertrand was 83-of-84 setting, 19-of-19 serving, and 17-21 attacking with 40 assists and 10 digs.
Owen was 20-of-26 serving, 10-of-14 passing, and 25-of-27 attacking with 20 digs and nine kills. Ellen Nothhelfer was 12-of-12 serving and 14-of-16 passing with nine digs.
