Goodrich’s varsity volleyball team made it to the semifinals of the Bishop Foley Invitational Saturday, Feb. 4 ? and received a bonus in the process.
After defeating Bishop Foley to get into the semifinals, the Martians lost to Grand Rapids Tri-Unity Christian, ranked fourth in Class D. Goodrich is now 15-13-5 overall.
Goodrich coach Richard Sirna said Bishop Foley, to his surprise, donated the proceeds from the tournament to the Kayla O’Mara Scholarship Fund at Goodrich High School.
O’Mara, a Goodrich High School junior, was killed Jan. 24 in a car accident.
In pool play, the Martians went 3-3 to finish third in their pool, defeating Madison and tying Flushing while losing to Grand Rapids Tri-Unity Christian.

After an undefeated start in Genesee Area Conference play, the Martians lost their first league matchup of the season Feb. 2 against New Lothrop, falling to the Hornets 22-25, 25-16, 19-25, 17-25. Goodrich is now 6-1 in league play.
