Goodrich’s record as of press time is 8-3-2, while Brandon is 1-7 in Flint Metro League play.
The first half featured nip-and-tuck action on both sides, with all the scoring occurring in that half.
The Martians? Amy Kovas scored a couple minutes into the contest on a corner kick to put Goodrich up 1-0. About 10 minutes into the game, Brandon’s Jackie Back closed in on Goodrich goalie Brittany Beard on a breakaway, but Beard made the save.
A few minutes later, Back came through and tied the game at one. Goodrich’s Ali Smith answered with a goal off a rush to put the Martians up 2-1.
After Brandon’s Sarah Eldon answered with a goal with about 12 minutes left in the first half, Goodrich’s Jessica Engler put the finishing touches on the Martians? win, scoring on a long shot from the outside with about six minutes to go in the first half.
Goodrich coach Nigel Barnett said he was impressed with the Blackhawks.
‘They’re definitely a bigger team compared to us,? he said. ‘It’s a harder game for us to play. I have a lot of respect for their program. They’re a good, aggressive team.?
On May 7, the Martians earned a 4-0 win against Oakland Christian before falling 3-0 to Saginaw Nouvel May 10.
Meanwhile, Brandon dropped a 5-1 contest to Lapeer East May 9, with Amanda Loeffler tallying the lone Brandon goal.
