Goodrich’s hockey team is struggling to get back on the winning track.
The Martians recently suffered back-to-back losses Jan. 14-15, losing to Kearsley 5-2 and Flushing 3-2, dropping their season record to 7-7-1.
Against Flushing, the Martians fell behind 1-0 on a power play goal in the first period. Goodrich forward Derek Powers scored an even-strength goal on an assist from defenseman Steve Tangney to tie the game at one in the second period.
However, Flushing scored a power play goal and an even-strength goal later in the second to pull ahead 3-1. The Martians would cut the Flushing margin to one as forward Reece Geml scored on an assist from forwards Brian Van Kuren and Max Hawkins, but that was as close as they got.
Unfortunately for the Martians, the competition was a little more one-sided against Kearsley the previous night, as the Hornets scored four straight goals on their way to the win, led by Randy Wills, who notched a hat trick.
Goodrich scored their first goal in the second period, with Kearsley ahead 4-0. Geml scored on assists by Van Kuren and Hawkins to reduce the Kearsley lead to 4-1.
However, the Hornets scored another goal in the third period to put the game on ice. Hawkins scored the Martians? other goal of the game later in the third on assists from Van Kuren and Geml.
