Goodrich’s varsity football team will look to turn things around next season after their 2005 campaign ended on a losing note.
The Martians lost 28-12 to host Yale in an Oct. 21 contest, ending their season with a 1-8 record. The Bulldogs finished their year at 5-4.
Yale was firmly in command of the game by the time the Martians put any points on the scoreboard. Joe Leppek scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 6:44 left in the fourth quarter, and quarterback Tyler Moncrieff threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Matt VanSumeren with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter.
Moncrieff went 7-of-19 passing in the game with 114 yards, while senior Eric Hughes caught five passes for 91 yards.
Bennett Gillam led the Martians defensively with 20 tackles, while Leppek added 15, Chris Tanner 12 and Josh Johns 10.
The Martians graduate nine players from this year’s team: Hughes, Leppek, Jessica Engler, Billy Feldmann, Tyler Bouck, Drew Valente, A.J. Harmon, Matt Davidson and Joel Calverley
