David Custer, 34, a 1998 Goodrich High School graduate, will be the face of a new local newscast at 10 p.m. on WNEM-TV5.
Custer, a University of Michigan-Flint graduate, is launching an hour-long newscast after successfully producing a 10 p.m. newscast for more than a decade for FOX66. Custer has been well-received by mid-Michigan viewers giving the show on FOX66 some of the highest ratings it has seen since its inception in 2002 (Nielsen May 2014). WNEM-TV5 decided not to renew the contract with ?66? and launch their own primetime show starting April 27 on their digital channel MY5.
‘Viewers value and trust the TV5 news team at 10 p.m. and we are confident they will adjust their nightly television watching routines,? said Al Blinke, general manager of WNEM-TV5. ‘MY5 is on all the major cable systems? Charter 199, Comcast 4 and you can find it over the air on 5.2.?
Custer is a four-time Emmy Award-winning news person and fixture on the news at 10 for two years. He will sit alongside his current co-anchor Meg McLeod. McLeod, a University of Missouri graduate, has been part of the current 10 p.m. show since July 2014. The new show will feature local news, weather and sports. It will also allow TV5 to bring their investigative reports into primetime.
