Goodrich’s boys golf team has established themselves early on as a team to be reckoned with in the Genesee Area Conference.
The Martians finished first among GAC teams at the Shannabrok Invitational Monday, Aug. 22 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Howell. The tournament also doubled as the GAC preseason opener.
Goodrich shot a team score of 328 at the tournament, 14 strokes ahead of second-place New Lothrop. Bentley finished third at 346.
Among all teams in the tournament, the Martians finished third behind first-place Davison (310) and second-place West Bloomfield (326).
Matt Christensen led the Goodrich contingent, and finished third among all GAC golfers, with a score of 81. Tyler Frantangelo was second at 84. Rounding out the Goodrich scoring were Troy Westerby (85), Mark Dresselhouse (86) and Caleb Jones (87).
The Martians opened their 2006 campaign with a top-three finish at the Lapeer Invitational Saturday, Aug. 19.
The Martians finished third overall with a team score of 315, seven strokes behind first-place Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, which won the tournament with a team score of 308. Troy Athens finished second at 313.
Christensen finished second overall among all golfers with a round of 73, while Frantangelo just missed out on earning medalist honors, shooting a 77.
The Martians have a pair of league contests scheduled for the upcoming week, Monday, Aug. 28 against Bentley and Lake Fenton and Wednesday, Aug. 30 against Byron and New Lothrop.
