Goodrich golfers capture Division 3 crown at Genesee County Meet

Goodrich’s boys golf team proved to be the best in their class at the Genesee County Golf Championship meet.
The Martians won the Division 3 bracket of the tournament, held Sept. 20 at Atlas Valley Country Club in Goodrich. Goodrich finished with a team score of 330, which was good for fifth place overall among the 18 teams that participated in the meet.
Flint Powers Catholic won the overall meet and Division 2 bracket with a score of 310, one stroke ahead of Grand Blanc, who won the Division 1 bracket.
No Goodrich wrestlers finished in the top ten individual finishers. The closest was Wes Coleman, who shot 80, two strokes behind T.J. Rice of Fenton, R.C. Kennard of Flint SW Academy, and Brad Cutter of Swartz Creek.
Rounding out the Goodrich scoring were Charlie Richards (81), Jared Swanson (83), Ben Richards (86), and Nick Wesener (88).
One day later, the Martians defeated GAC rivals New Lothrop and Bentley in a meet at Twin Brooks in Chesaning. The Martians shot 156, while New Lothrop shot 167 and Bentley 172.
Coleman led the Martians with a round of 38, while Swanson and Charlie Richards each shot 39.
The Martians won a close Genesee Area Conference meet Sept. 16, defeating visiting Montrose 157-164 at Atlas Valley Country Club.
Wesener led the Martians by shooting a 38, while Ben Richards and Swanson each finished at 39.
