Goodrich-Friday night will be a white out.
At 7 p.m., Sept. 11, the Roy U. Stacey Athletic Complex will turn white to honor Coach Fritz Wolff, 76, who died Aug. 19 due to complications from cancer. The event will be at the first home game when Goodrich takes on Corunna.
In the fall of 1963, Wolff began teaching and coaching football at Goodrich. He would teach 42 years and retire in 2005. Fritz coached football at Goodrich for 47 years, as well as coaching at Grand Blanc and one year at Swartz Creek. In 1994 he was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Hall of Fame.
Goodrich Football Coach, Tom Alward had been on the Martian sidelines with Wolff for 23 seasons.
‘For just about half of Fritz’s career we coached together,? said Alward, who is 124-87 and the most winningest coach in school history. ‘This is the first season without him’but he is still with us.?
To honor Wolff, the boosters are selling white T-shirts, recognizing his signature white hair.
‘The team will use their away jerseys, which are white,? he said. ‘At halftime we are going to retire number 51, recognizing the number of years Fritz was in Goodrich. The jersey will be displayed at the school in a showcase. We are also requesting former players to send a blurb regarding Fritz that will be relayed to the family.?
