Goodrich School District enrollment jumped to 2,211, an increase of 43 students compared to the 2007 count, while the Brandon School District lost 92 students following Wednesday’s count day.
Higher or lower enrollment means an increase or loss in revenue for the schools. The Brandon School District will realize a loss of $673,072 base on a 2008-09 per-pupil funding of $7,316. Goodrich will gain $314,488 for the 2008-09 school year.
Brandon School officials had budgeted a decline in enrollment of 100 students for the 2008-09 school year.
Last year Goodrich state funding declined by $99,512 and Brandon dropped by $597,072.
Goodrich school officials say a greater number of school of choice students has helped boost the enrollment. Earlier this year the Goodrich district opened up to students in Oakland, Lapeer and Livingston counties. Prior to the change, school of choice students needed to live in Genesee County.
Michael Tripp, Goodrich School board president, was pleased with the student count.
‘Our increase in students is not because the economy is any better in the Goodrich area,? said Tripp. ‘Our staff, programs and community is outstanding. We can now look forward to continuing the classes we have with no cuts.?
