Goodrich Council to consider village property sale

Goodrich-The council is expected to decide the future of a handful of village owned parcels at Monday night’s meeting.
In 2011 the village council accepted seven 100-by-200 parcels of property on Tara Court, located just east of State Road and north of Hegel Road. According to the Genesee County Land Bank, the parcels were foreclosed on in 2008 for unpaid taxes and auctioned by the Genesee County Treasurer’s Office on Sept.16 for $13,384. A second auction was held on Oct. 28, 2011 at no minimum bid. There were no buyers.
Since that time, the village has been owners of the property and kept the land mowed in the summertime.
The vacant lots were made the responsibility of the village to maintain and the village may sell the land when the economy improves, added Doug McAbee, village council member.
‘I’m not sure how the council will vote on the sale of the properties, but there should be sealed bids and the sale should be made public,? said McAbee.
‘It’s the fair and simple way to sell those properties. I would expect that some of the neighbors in the Fairview Oaks Subdivision would be interested in the properties and would bid on it. Local residents should have the opportunity to bid on the property.?
‘Right now the village is not getting any tax revenue on the property,? he added.
‘Its been a year since the village aquired the property? so it’s time to sell them.?
