Not only did Goodrich’s girls basketball team remain undefeated on Sept. 29, they set a school record in the process.
The Martians tallied the highest point total for a regulation game in the school’s history, defeating host Lake Fenton 90-45 in a battle for first place in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division.
With the win, the Martians improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the GAC Red. The Blue Devils fell to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the division.
Goodrich was never threatened during the game, taking a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and a 46-23 lead at the half.
Although the Blue Devils went to the free throw line more, the Martians were more successful from the charity stripe, converting 13-of-16 attempts (81.3 percent) compared to 17-of-28 (60.7 percent) for Lake Fenton.
Nykole Pfaff led a balanced scoring attack for the Martians, scoring 18 points, while Andrea Howell added 12 points and Maribeth Barns 11. A total of 11 Goodrich players scored at least three points apiece.
