The Wolves varsity golf team finished eighth out of a field of 25 teams at the Oakland County invitational last Friday at Pontiac Country Club.
Clarkston’s four-man team shot a combined score of 318, ten strokes off the pace set by Bloomfield Hills Andover, who won the invitational.
‘I told the kids before the meet that if we finished in the top ten than we’d be doing really well,? Coach Tim Kaul said.
The course was a bit damp in some areas of the fairways from rains during the week, but for the most part very well maintained. Several golfers remarked the greens were very fast and hard to manage.
Mike Horn led Clarkston by shooting a 4-over-par 76. Mike Fogg shot a 77, Zach McDonald posted an 81 and Colin Madole entered the clubhouse with an 84 on his scorecard.
‘The kids feel pretty good about themselves, they know that we have the potential, if everyone plays well at the same time, to make states,? said Kaul.
In order to qualify for the State tournament Clarkston needs to finish in the top three at regionals on Thursday Oct. 7 at Orchards Golf Club.
The Wolves golf team is currently 5-2 in dual match play.
