Be on the look out for motorized vehicles on Leonard’s asphalt section of the Polly Ann Trail next month.
The Polly Ann Trailway Management Council (PATMC) voted unanimously at their Aug. 22 meeting to allow senior citizens and others with limited mobility to use motorized golf carts on a trial basis.
Council decided that the golf carts could be used Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings throughout the month of October.
Battery operated wheel chairs are already permitted on the trail during regular operating times.
‘The change is for our older and handicapped residents only,? said Amy Murray, trail manager. ‘Please respect the intent so we can continue to provide this special exception for them.?
Before hitting the trail, cart operators must complete a form accepting the trail rules and sign a waiver acknowledging their responsibilities toward other trail users, the times they can use the carts and a liability release.
A pass will be issued to the trail user after the information is completed and must be carried and presented upon request by law enforcement or trail personnel.
To register, contact Leonard’s clerk at (248) 628-7380 beginning Sept. 24.
