Brandon Twp – Since the last week of June, Glass Road residents have been re-maneuvered to their own driveways.
Last week, however, work halted on the East and West Glass Road alignment project and the road was again open to residential traffic.
The shortcut home was short-lived though, because according to Township Supervisor Ron Lapp, the silty sand that caused the interruption has been replaced and the way is now paved to continue the project.
‘The contractors ran into sand at sublevel, which was causing a quicksand kind of effect on the equipment,? Lapp said.
Officials from the Road Commission for Oakland County told Lapp the sand was replaced and the project is back on tract at full speed.
Emergency vehicles will continue to have direct access to both sides of Glass Road.
Lapp said Brandon Township has contributed more than $345,000 to the realignment project.
Both of the Glass Road intersections will be shifted in order to meet continuously at M-15.
The $600,000 alignment will eliminate the need for a double traffic light system which will reduce the chance for accidents and ease traffic flow, according to Lapp.
The alignment will include adding north and southbound left and right turn lanes.
