The Clarkston girl’s cross country team did exactly what was expected of them at the league meet on Oct. 21. They dominated the competition en route to their fourth straight league championship.
Clarkston finished with 30 points beating second place Troy High by 50.
?(Before the League meet) I told them ‘the season starts today,? this is the time of year when we get serious,? said Coach Jamie Labrosse. ‘After what I saw today they are taking it seriously and it is a step in the right direction.?
Liz Mengyan won the race by setting a Bloomer park course record of 18:12. Lyndsay Smith, Jenna Leach, Ann Oltman and Gillian Nordquist all finished in the top ten as well.
‘It was a really good meet, a good team run,? said Labrosse.
The Wolves? next event will be Oct. 30, CHS is hosting the regional finals at Clintonwood park.
‘It will be nice to run in front of our home crowd. The school and the community hear about us, but they never really get to see us run. I hope a lot of people come out to watch us,? said Labrosse. ‘Even if I was not a cross country fan, I would come to see some great athletes compete, and these girls are.?
Clarkston’s girls are ranked number one in the Midwest and number five in the nation according to the Harrier Super 25 poll.
Lead runner Jenny Morgan was held out of the League meet in order to ensure she is completely healthy for regionals and the State finals. Clarkston is a heavy favorite to repeat as State champions this year.
The boys varsity finished seventh in their League meet which was also held Thursday.
