Head coach Andrew McDonald said it was ‘a total team effort? when it came to the Oxford varsity girl’s track team’s second place win at the North Farmington Raider Relay last Friday.
‘The team scored in every event on the track and ran some very gutsy races to make sure we scored,? he said.
Oxford girls finished second to Livonia Franklin.
On the track, junior captain Jacqui Sylva and senior captains Tiara Tatarczuk and Ashlee Morgan Eller led the sprints to 1st, 5th and 6th place wins.
Freshmen Keeona Ives, Taylor Carpenter, Molly Bonfiglio, Katie Tuski, Kate Wolanin and Shannon Seeley all scored points in their first big relay meet of the year.
Sophomore Hannah George’s fantastic 1st place finish in the 1600 relay helped secure the second place win for Oxford. Sophomores Danielle Kelley, Jessica Pyke and Brook Bocquet also did well in the middle distances, while senior Natalie Lukas and junior Kayle Parker each scored in several events.
In the shot-put and discus events, freshmen Megan Tilley, Shannon Seeley and Danielle Bauman did very well competing in the throwing event for their first time ever.
The boy’s team ended the relay in 10th place out of 15 teams, with a 4th place in discus, 5th place in the 1600-meter relay and 6th place win in the distance medley relay.
In league competition last Wednesday, both the boy’s and girl’s teams beat Clio and Lapeer West, bringing their records to 3-1 and 4-0, respectively.
