The Oxford girls varsity cross country team defeated Swartz Creek and Linden at their tri-meet last Wednesday and now stands 2-0 in the league.
Taylor Dewey placed second, followed by Keeona Ives at third, Liz Hazelwood fourth, Kate Wolanin seventh, Jacque Magdaleno placed 12th, Danielle Kelley at thirteenth, and Chelsea Kessler at 19th.
The boys, however, lost 34-23 to Swartz Creek and 48-15 to Linden and their record is now 0-2.
Adam Heskitt took seventh place, Kevin Jickling took fourteenth, Ben Cole took 15th and Eric Joergens placed 19th.
At the Detroit Catholic Central Invitational last Saturday, though, both teams came out well.
The Oxford girls placed second, scoring 47 points in the 13-team invitational. Medal winners included Dewey, Wolanin, Hazelwood, Ives, Magdaleno, Kelley, and ellen Darnell.
The Oxford boys placed fifth at the invitational with 111 points. Medal winners were Heskitt, Jickling, Mike Brendel, Greg White and Matt Deighton.
The varsity cross country teams will travel to Lapeer West for their tri-meet this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Girls runners undefeated in league
The Oxford varsity girls swim team gave it their best effort at their Sept. 21 double-dual meet against Fenton and Lapeer East and West, but the girls ended with a score of 120 against Fenton’s 263 and Lapeer’s 155.
Highlights of the meet were the two first place wins from Allison Woonton in the 200-yard swim and 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:27.71 and 6:05.81, respectively.
The team took third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:36.81.
Swimmers were Woonton, Tiara Tartarczuk, Melissa Manzella and Kristi VanderMarliere.
Taylor Roop took third in the diving event with a score of 164.10, and fifth place went to Anna Bonfiglio with a score of 117.75.
The girls will travel to Holly for thier next meet on Thursday, Oct. 5.
