During his first season as head coach, Tim Wasilk led the Clarkston girls basketball team to the quarterfinals, winning a district and regional title on the way.
Wasilk said he has not set any goals for his second season, but is confident in this year’s squad.
‘We got a good core coming back,? Wasilk said. ‘Offensively, we are ahead of where we were last year. The team knows what they are supposed to do and what we expect of them If our girls can play within themselves, know their roles, compete and play hard, then everything else will take care of itself.?
The Wolves lost four starters to graduation, but return leading scorer Chelsea Kouri. Last season, Kouri averaged over 15 points a game. Wasilk said Kouri is a great shooter and a very steady player, but she is going to have to work harder this season to score.
‘She is going to get a lot more attention this year,? Wasilk said. ‘She just has to be patient. She may not get the shots that she got last year. Other girls are going to have to step up and become the second and third option.?
One player Wasilk thinks will step up is senior Jessica Palace.
‘She is very strong in the post. She has improved her offensive game tremendously from last year, Wasilk said.?
Joining Kouri and Palace in the starting lineup will be Jordan Mrosewske, Jen Johnston and Taylor Daugherty.
Clarkston opens up the season by hosting Flint Powers on August 30 and then hosts Davison on September 5.
