Only two weeks after announcing her retirement at the end of this school year, a replacement for Lakeville Elementary principal Sharon Karpinski has already been announced.
Kristy Gibson-Marshall, who is currently the assistant principal at Oxford Middle School, will take hold of the Lakeville ropes this September.
Gibson-Marshall has served in Oxford for 12 years. Before becoming the assistant principal at OMS, she taught intermediate school throughout the district for 10 years.
She said she is excited to have the opportunity to transition from the assistant principal role to an ‘educational leader? at the elementary level.
‘I feel like I’m going back to my roots,? she said. ‘Because I am K-12 certified, I spent my early teaching experiences with elementary students.?
Although she said the transition will be challenging, Gibson-Marshall said her biggest challenge will be ‘trying to fill the gigantic shoes Sharon Karpinski is leaving behind.?
‘I am extremely excited for the possibilities of what next year has to offer,? she said. ‘I look forward to utilizing my education and leadership experiences to build upon the wonderful school Mrs. Karpinski and the Lakeville staff have created.?
Though Gibson-Marshall is looking forward to starting at Lakeville, she said she will miss everyone at OMS.
‘There is a really great camaraderie at OMS,? she said. ‘The kids and staff are a lot of fun.?
