Goodrich – Some of the best talent in Genesee County will take the Goodrich High School stage next week in the first ever Genesee Area Conference Student Council Talent Show.
Goodrich High School is hosting the event, which will feature acts from Lakeville, Bendle, Lake Fenton, Genesee, Mt. Morris, Atherton, and Goodrich high schools.
The event is the brainchild of student council leaders, who comprise the GAC Student Council.
‘Our purpose is to promote unity throughout the district,? said GAC Student Council President Vicky Schall, of Goodrich.
‘Some schools have a talent show every year anyway, and it’s a good way to make money for each school.?
A $5 admission fee will be collected by GAC Student Council members, who pay cash prizes out of the council’s annual dues. The first-prize act wins $125; second prize wins $75, and third prize wins $50.
Each school will send one representative to judge the competition.
While buying a vote is illegal in many competitions, in this show it’s encouraged, with proceeds from ‘popular votes? going to charity. A popular vote can be purchased by anyone in the audience for $1, said Schall.
Whether the event will become an annual tradition remains to be seen, as each year’s team of students decides on its own activities.
Based on the response so far, it’s a strong possibility.
‘I think the communities are really excited about it,? Schall said.
The Genesee Area Conference Student Talent Show will be held at 7 p.m. April 30 in the Goodrich High School auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door.
