An air of mystery surrounds the first Ghost Walk event organized by the Clarkston Community Historical Society and Heritage Museum.
Toni Smith, museum director, is keeping most of the eight stops on the walking tour a secret, but gave The Clarkston News a few details.
On Aug. 11 from 9-11 p.m., costumed storytellers will share tales of the paranormal, historical tidbits, and information about mourning traditions at designated sites around Clarkston.
To take a tour through the historical locations, interested parties can purchase tickets for $12.50 at the Independence Township Library, but they are only for ages 13 and older. The event will take place rain or shine, and while tour guides will have lanterns, ticket-holders are welcome to bring a flashlight.
Tour groups will leave about every 10 minutes, and the entire walk encompasses about four blocks, Smith said.
She arranged the Historic Clarkston Downtown Ghost Walk after going on a few in other cities.
‘They’re always fascinating, and it is a fun reason to walk around at night,? she said.
Chip Travis’s house at 61 South Holcomb is one of the sites on the tour Smith was willing to reveal, and if the other locations on the Ghost Walk are similarly spooky, patrons can expect to feel a few goose bumps.
‘Everybody who has lived here has told stories identical to my experience,? said Travis, who has had a few chilling close encounters.
From strange ruffles in bed covers to missing items and doors opening and closing on their own, Travis’s home, built in the 1800s, is full of paranormal mysteries.
Ghost Hunters of Southern Michigan (GHOSM) will be on hand in Depot Park to answer questions about the spirit world, but tickets for the Ghost Walk are going fast.
‘I have a feeling we may sell out,? said Smith.
