Getting ready to return to school

Clarkston Area Youth Assistance hosted the annual Mentor’s Plus Back to School party, Aug. 27, at Clintonwood Park.
“In order to stay in school, we felt the kids had to start their new school year off on a positive note ? appropriately and adequately equipped with school supplies,” said Joyce Bleim of CAYA. “With the support from several local Clarkston businesses, we had enough resources to purchases school supplies for every Plus kid and their siblings.”
Students pick an empty backpack and, along with their mentor, go around to each station and select school supplies using their ‘back to school? supply list. This provides a good way for the child and Mentor to discuss education issues, Bleim said.
After the backpacks were filled, students and mentors enjoyed a picnic.
