Clarkston’s boys and girls cross country teams both continued to run well the past week as each team defeated Rochester and Seaholm in a tri-meet on Sept. 20 on CHS? home course.
For the girls team, the tri-meet was an appetizer for a win at the Jackson Invitational on Sept. 24.
In the Jackson invite, Clarkston’s sister act of senior Jenny and freshman Stephanie Morgan finished in first and second place. Jenny broke the finish line with a time of 18:21, three seconds ahead of her younger sister. Senior Lisa Sickman also had a good race, finishing ninth overall with a time of 19:22. Other top finishers for the Wolves were freshman Kristin Smith in 15th place; Lyndsay Smith, who ran sick and still finished 20th; and junior Jenna Leach who finished 25th.
‘If we are going to to get better it’s going to have to come from our back end runners,? said Clarkston Coach Jamie LaBrosse.
In the end, the Wolves tallied 48 points at the Jackson invite. Saline, the No. 2 team in the state behind the Wolves, finished in second place with 73.
In the week’s earlier action, Stephanie Morgan tied senior Lyndsay Smith for first place overall in the Wolves tri-meet with a time of 20:10. Sickman (fifth), junior Jenna Leach (sixth) and freshman Tiffany Kincaid (tenth), finished out the scoring as Clarkston dispatched Rochester 15-43 and Seaholm 15-42.
In the boys tri-meet, Hazen Brennan finished first with a time of 17:10 and was joined in the top five by Nick LaMora (third), Ed Brennan (fifth). Jeff Kuhl (ninth) and Chris Anderson (11th). They defeated Seaholm 23-35 and Rochester 21-36.
The girls and boys cross country both ran against Lake Orion on Sept. 27. Both races finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
The boys team is the busier of the two this coming week. They run in the Brandon Invitational at Independence Oaks on Sept. 30 and in the Hanson Invite on Oct. 1.
The girls team runs in theCarson City invite on Oct. 1, which features talented teams like Rockford.
‘We’ve never been to (Carson City) before. It is supposed to be a fast course so we should be able to set some personal records there,? said LaBrosse.
